Information for wedding

Hello friends and family! Aga and I are ridiculously excited for you (hopefully) to come to our wedding in Poland! The date is already rushing towards at quite a pace, so – as promised – we’ve compiled some information for you regarding location, nearby hotels and so on.

Sopot is a lovely town and a popular holiday destination – so there’s a plethora of places to stay, things to do and places to go to!

Invitations to follow!

VENUE UPDATE

So unfortunately the venue we had reserved looks about 80% sure to be shut down! It was really nice (I Swear), but we are looking to move. BUT – this shouldn’t change anyones plans. Myself and Aga’s family will be laying on busses to and from the new venue, from after the ceremony and then coming back to the town at multiple towns during the night.

We will update in due course, but obviously it’s been a bit of a struggle for us to find somewhere so last minute so bear with us!

DATE

14th September 2019.

TIME

The ceremony kicks off at 3 p.m. Central European Standard Time.

VENUE

The ceremony is at:

Tadeusza Kościuszki 19, 81-704 Sopot, Polska

FLIGHTS

The nearest airport is Gdansk Airport. It’s about a 25 minute drive from the church – and this usually costs around £10 to £15 in a taxi.

Direct flights to Gdansk fly in from London Luton and London Stansted everyday. You can also go from other airports such as Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and others – but these aren’t as regular as the London flights.

For those not wanting to stay the night before, There are direct flights from Stansted and Luton, both leaving at 8:40 and arriving at 11:50. Not overly sure how both flights intend to land at the same time on the 1 runway – so maybe follow that closer to the time!

THE WEDDING ITSELF

Children are invited, there’ll be a meal at the reception and we’ll be providing enough alcohol to hopefully meet the reputation of a Polish wedding! If somehow we don’t achieve that, there’s a bar at the venue but if it gets to that stage then I imagine we’ll be passed out by that point. Aga wants to point out that a Polish wedding NEVER runs out of free booze.

We don’t want a dress code, but we’d recommend Smart Casual, and for everyone to be comfortable and have a great time.

HOTELS

Hotels are currently reasonably priced to book. As Sopot is a holiday town, there’s a huge selection of hotels, Air BnB’s, apartment rentals, hostels etc. Aga has selected a few of her top picks. Most of these are accessible on Trivago as well. Our top recommendation would be the Grand Hotel. It’s right on the coast and very beautiful. The Grand Hotel is shown below, along with a photo of the surroundings.

FURTHER AWAY

If you’re wanting to stay a little further from the town, the nearest city is the historic town of Gdansk. This is about 20 minutes away on the train and the train travel costs about £1 per person.

CURRENCY

The currency is the Zloty, which at the time of writing (24/02/19) is 4.99 Zloty (PLN) to the pound.

For a proper currency exchange, a pint in Sopot costs 8 to 12 Zloty (PLN). Taxi from the airport to Sopot is about 50-60 PLN and a good meal in a restaurant is about 30-40 PLN.
